The EU

Getting you to sign our petition is of paramount importance to us but we also want you to contribute further and interact fully with our campaign.

In order to do this we reckon it would be a good idea if we gave you a little bit of information about the institution our campaign centres around - the European Union (EU).

The EU is an economic and political union of 27 Member States, located primarily in Europe.

The EU has developed a single market through a standardised system of laws which apply in all Member States.

It's founding four freedoms are that of the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital.

The EU is divided into three "Pillars".

1. European Community Policies.
2. Common Foreign & Security Policy.
3. Police & Judicial Cooperation in Criminal matters.

These Pillars categorize the different areas of policy that the EU covers.

Pillar 1 is of the most relevance to the right2bet campaign as it is the pillar which most EU activities fall under.

It is within this pillar that the European Commission and European Parliament conduct most of their activity. It is therefore the members of these two institutions that our campaign must look to influence as they are the ones charged with ensuring that EU law is implemented across the Member States. This is not currently happening, with several States ignoring the fundemental law of Freedom of Services when it comes to the gambling industry.
